Two police constables stationed in Kilimani and Muthangari police stations respectively were arrested on Friday, March 3, on allegations of robbing three businessmen of Ksh5 million cash and gold worth Ksh7 million.

According to confirmed police reports, the two officers ambushed the victims in the pretence of arresting them along Katani Road in the Mlolongo area on February 22.

Subsequently, the officers allegedly bungled the victims into a vehicle before driving off towards a police station.

However, the businessmen were dumped at a parking yard outside Kilimani Police Station before the police officers reportedly fled with the money and gold.

Upon realising that they were not under police custody, the three victims reported the matter at Mlolongo Police Station, which prompted the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) investigations to launch a probe.

After close to two weeks of investigations, the DCI detectives followed leads, and arrested the suspects.

Investigators uncovered the identity of the suspects in the case before apprehending them.

The officers were also placed under police custody for processing prior to being arraigned in court for armed robbery.

Meanwhile, the DCI continued with investigations to ascertain whether more officers were involved in the armed robbery case.

In January, four police officers were arrested on suspicion of robbing a businessman of Ksh2 million in cash in Nairobi.

According to the DCI, the four - in what appeared to be a well-orchestrated move - ambushed the businessman after he transacted at a Nairobi bank.

Notably, the officers approached the victim under the cover of conducting investigations - like the recent Katani Road incident.

They too dumped their victim along a highway in Nairobi before vanishing with the money.
