United Democratic Alliance (UDA) interim secretary general, Cleophas Malala, launched an onslaught against Cabinet Secretaries (CS) affiliated with affiliate political parties within Kenya Kwanza.
Speaking on Friday, March 3, Malala castigated the CSs maintaining they cannot serve in Cabinet under a party other than UDA.
He insisted that the action amounted to disrespecting President William Ruto.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi leads Amani National Congress, while his Foreign Affairs, Alfred Mutua, is Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader. Ex-officio member of the Cabinet, Attorney General Justin Muturi, is also the leader of the Democratic Party.
"You cannot be in Cabinet and still belong to another political party. That is contempt to our President. All parties in Kenya Kwanza must dissolve," Malala indicated.
Defending the push for Cabinet secretaries to fold their parties, Malala indicated that the move would help quell infighting among the affiliate parties.
He further argued that the decision would help Ruto's administration direct its efforts in delivering its campaign pledges.
"All Kenya Kwanza affiliate parties must come together. We can only have one boss at a time." Malala stated.
"We would like to shut down all the affiliate parties and join UDA so that we can have one party," he insisted.
His sentiments came after Democratic Party rejected the plans to merge political parties. The officials allied with Attorney General, Justin Muturi, explained that the ruling party needed to be accommodative of all the parties to promote multi-party democracy.
'We have never heard of any ruling party, in any country, saying that they want to fold other parties to be one. We are believers in democracy. Therefore we are not going to allow and accept the push," Democratic Party secretary general, Jacob Haji stated.
"If other parties accept to fold their parties, they can do whatever they want to do, but as DP, we will not fold,' he added.
Other parties in Kenya Kwanza include Moses Wetangula's Ford Kenya, the Communist Party of Kenya, Mwangi Kiunjuri's The Service Party, William Kabogo's Tujibebe Party, the Farmers Party, Devolution Party of Kenya, Economic Freedom Party and Martin Wambora's Umoja na Maendeleo Party.
Meanwhile, Malala, on Saturday, March 4, claimed that youth registering as UDA members had an added advantage in landing government jobs.
The former Kakamega senator spoke in Kisumu after launching UDA offices.
