Tiaty Member of Parliament, William Kamket, on Wednesday, March 8, asked Environment Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya, to clarify the procedure followed in the ongoing recruitment of Kenya Forest Service officers.
During a National Assembly session, the Tiaty legislator demanded the CS explain measures adopted to prevent the marginalisation of some communities, especially in cosmopolitan areas.
“Could the Cabinet Secretary explain measures put in place by the Ministry to curb intra-county marginalisation during the recruitment of the Kenya Forest Service Rangers, particularly in cosmopolitan counties to enhance equity,” Kamket requested in his statement.
Following the request, the CS will be summoned to appear before the National Assembly through the departmental committee on Environment and Forestry to respond to the concerns raised.
KFS announced the mass recruitment targeting 2,300 forest ranger recruits. According to the notice, the process was scheduled to commence on March 8 at all designated places at the sub-county level.
In addition, the Kenya Forest Service announced recruitment for assistant foresters and foresters scheduled to take place simultaneously with the rangers' exercise.
After meeting team leaders in the recruitment exercise on Monday, March 6, Tuya expressed her confidence in the seamless process in all 47 counties.
Members of the recruitment team had performed drills in their mock recruitment as one of the measures to ensure preparedness for the process.
"I am confident with the level of preparedness and wish all the young people who will be participating in the exercise this week the very best," CS Tuya noted.
Questions about equality in the recruitment process into the disciplined forces of Kenya have been raised before hence explaining the concerns by Kamket.
Besides regional balance, cases where some communities are left out due to a lack of identity cards as required in the recruitment.
