A photo of the casket barbeque grill elicited debate among Kenyans who were puzzled by the unusual design alleged to be in Eldoret.

The casket grill was pictured with tantalising meat on top and a drink by the side. It was widely shared with many questioning the thoughts behind the innovation.

Initially, the photo was shared on Facebook by a travel enthusiast on Saturday, March 11, with the caption, "New Nyama Choma joint (Kipkoech Grills) in Eldoret Town."

It was also shared by popular media houses adding to the debate with many suggesting that the casket grills will do more harm than good to the business.

"As creative as the idea is, that is how you scare potential customers," one opined.

Additionally, the photos were also shared in neighbouring Uganda alleging that the casket grill was in the country.

However, a Google reverse search by Kenyans.co.ke traced the photo to North Cotabato, Philippines, where a funeral home owner had turned the casket into a grill.

Vincent Levi Bayona Doletin, 27, turned some caskets from the funeral home he runs in Pigcawayan town into a barbecue grill.

Similar to Kenya, the videos and photos went viral with many lauding his creative skills.

In an interview with the Inquirer (Philippine media house), the 27-year-old noted that he was inspired by the dancing pallbearers who also went viral during the pandemic.

"My coffin grill is just for personal use, and I have no plans to start a grilling business. Perhaps no one would eat at my grilling business since I come from a funeral home," he told the media house.

Reportedly, it took him two days to turn the coffin into a grill with the help of friends and family.
