Minutes after former a section of former KANU politicians decamped to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), ex-KANU Women Congress Treasurer Brenda Majune on Wednesday, March 15, announced that she would form 'Daughters of His Excellency William Ruto' alongside First Daughter, Charlene Ruto.

Speaking to the press, Majune affirmed that the new movement would seek to work with the disadvantaged, primarily women, in arid and semi-arid areas to address climate change.

Some of the roles involved providing sanitary towels, foodstuff, and pitching medical camps with doctors from America and Israel.

“I have come to UDA because I believe in the vision of President William Ruto. Thank you, Secretary General Cleophas Malala for the warm welcome, assure the President that we’re ready to work with him," she stated.

Majune, an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, initially chaired the Daughters of Gideon Moi.

During its tenure, the movement visited over 20,000 women in more than 15 Counties and touched lives in different ways.

Majune scooped numerous prestigious fellowships and awards including a peace award from the International Peace Federation in July 2022.

"Climate Change has fueled conflicts in ASAL counties in Kenya, creating a crisis of climate refugees. Women bear the disproportionate burden of the conflicts and they must surely be protected.

"I have many friends from the International Community who are ready to fund our programmes and to support these women, so my sister Charlene and I will be hitting the ground soon," she stated.

On the other hand, Charlene is equally renowned for her efforts in championing climate change action.

Recently, the First Daughter joined Winnie Odinga, ODM leader Raila Odinga's daughter, at the Kenya Model United Nations 22nd Forum where they addressed issues affecting women across different generations.

In addition, they discussed mitigation measures to curb the ravaging effects of climate change.

"I offer myself to be the champion of millions of our young people, echoing their voices of concern and leading in the front to help them reach their full potential.

"From menstrual hygiene of our girls and women, anti-FGM advocacy and dignity of girls especially in marginalized communities, opportunities for youth in agribusiness, education and using our youthful energies to lead from the front in the world biggest war against the ravages of climate change," Charlene wrote on her website.
