Police at Nakuru Central Police Station were, on Thursday, March 16, gripped with panic, amusement and concern after two men stormed into the facility, climbed a tree and preached to the officers.

The two middle-aged men reportedly murmured a few words to each other before they began preaching.

They then stripped naked while shouting at the top of their voices, hastily climbing the tree. Among the issues, they spoke against, was the plight of police officers

Reports alleged that the duo urged the police officers to stay strong, maintain law and order and protect property as their roles stipulated.

Nakuru police officers attempted to have the men dress up, but their efforts were futile as the seemingly overzealous individuals continued their sermon.

They thus resorted to cordoning off the large tree in the middle of Nakuru Police Station.

The ugly event attracted a huge crowd that soon thronged the station, with witnesses also amused with the act.

After 11 hours, the two naked men finally agreed to descend from the tree and sat at a corner of the police station without saying a word.

Not knowing what to do with the two men, Nakuru police officers sought advice from superiors before taking further action.

The men were offered clothes, which they gladly agreed to, without coercion.

After noticing that the men had grown weak and tired after preaching for hours, the law enforcers offered them water and food.

Reports alleged that the duo may be charged with causing public disorder. Kenya's Penal Code states that every person who publicly conducts himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace may be charged with causing a nuisance.

It adds that the charges may also be preferred to every person who, without lawful excuse, publicly does any indecent act or solicits for immoral purposes in any public place.

"The persons shall be deemed idle and disorderly, and are guilty of a misdemeanour and are liable for the first offence to imprisonment for one month or to a fine not exceeding Ksh100,000, or to both and for every subsequent offence to imprisonment for one year," Chapter 63 (182) states.
