A press vehicle belonging to Nation Media Group (NMG) was on Monday, March 20, pelted with stones in Kibra, Nairobi as protestors engaged police officers during the Azimio la Umoja's mass demonstrations.
A video showed that the journalists were caught in the middle of the clash between the police and the protestors.
This prompted the officers to lob teargas at the youth who sought to march to Nairobi's Central Business District (CBD).
The irate youth pelted stones at the police officers and journalists and cracked the windscreen of NMG's press vehicle.
A police vehicle's windscreen was also stoned and damaged during the mayhem.
Security was beefed up along Moi Avenue, Uhuru Park, KICC and all roads leading to State House in Nairobi.
The police officers, who spoke to the media on condition of anonymity, stated that they had erected roadblocks along strategic points to prevent protestors from entering the CBD.
Moreover, other roads including University Way, Dennis Pritt and Arboretum Road were barricaded with security officers deployed in the area.
Other roads barricaded included Juja Road near the Moi Air Base - which also had a contingent of officers. Motorists plying the road were forced to look for alternative routes.
In addition, several youth were arrested by police officers in plain clothes at Kencom, KICC and City Hall Way. Heavy security detail was deployed to Jeevanjee Gardens, as no civilians were allowed inside the garden.
Minimal activities were witnessed in Kisumu County as business owners carried out their normal day-to-day operations.
Roads leading to the private residences of both Azimio la Umoja principals, Raila Odinga and Martha Karua, were restricted. The media was also blocked from accessing the former prime minister's house as police mounted a roadblock a few metres from his gate.
