Nairobi was ranked among the top 10 cities where foreigners found ease to settle in and make friends, according to the Expat Insider 2022 Report released on Friday, March 24.

In the report, InterNations - a community of expatriates - categorised cities into four indices, ease of settling in, welcome and culture, local friendliness, and making friends.

Notably, Nairobi emerged among the top 10 in all categories beating prominent cities such as New York, Dubai, and Singapore.

Among the cities where foreigners find ease to settle, Nairobi was ranked at position six after Mexico City, Musat, Valencia, Bangkok, and Lisbon - in that order.

Kenya beat famous cities such as Cape Town, Barcelona, and Brussels in that category.

On the other hand, Nairobi residents were the second most friendly after the capital was ranked second in the global cities after Mexico City.

"Nairobi (6th) and Cape Town (9th) represent the African continent in the top 10 of the index

"According to 66 per cent of survey respondents, making local friends is generally easy in Nairobi - 29 per cent even find it very easy (vs 42 per cent and 16 per cent globally)," read the report in part.

In the culture and welcome category, Nairobi was seventh after Mexico City, Lisbon, Valencia, Madrid, Dubai and Miami.

"Expats in both cities feel at home (Nairobi 4th, Cape Town 6th) and are happy with their social life there (Nairobi 6th, Cape Town 1st). In the South African metropolis, 42 per cent are even very pleased with their social life (vs 23% globally)," read the report in part.

Additionally, in another report by InterNations - Expat Essentials Index 2022- it was noted that foreigners found ease finding houses in Nairobi given the conditions set by landlords

"Housing is not an issue for expats in Kenya (12th for this subcategory) or Indonesia (2nd). Both destinations also do very well for Language, with Kenya coming third and Indonesia following in sixth place," read the report in part.
