The Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) on Tuesday, March 28 warned that information circulating on social media indicating that the Githurai footbridge had been completed was false.

In a statement, the corporation stated that the footbridge was not being commissioned on Wednesday, March 29 as claimed.

KRC added that the bridge was yet to be completed and was not ready for use by the public.

“It has come to our attention that there is information circulating on social media indicating the completion and subsequent commissioning of the railway footbridge,” the statement read in part.

According to KRC's management, it would inform the public once the railway footbridge was completed and ready for use.

“Kenya Railways will promptly advise the public once this footbridge is complete and ready for commissioning,” added the statement.

On February 24, in a mock event, the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga launched the footbridge during his protests.

Raila was accompanied by his former running mate and Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua.

Kenyans reacted to Raila’s move noting that it had come days after he was relieved of his role by the African Union (AU) as the High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa.

The former Prime Minister explained the developments noting that he had expressed concerns about performing his roles because of his availability and needed to focus on other pressing matters.

According to the opposition chief, he was happy to have played a role in ensuring that Africa's infrastructure needs were handled by the AU.

"I am proud to have made a contribution to the transformation of the NEPAD Agency to African Union Development Agency-NEPAD, among other contributions during my tenure," Raila stated.
