A mechanic based in Othaya market in Kibra recounted his experience during Azimio's mass action when he was allegedly shot by a senior police officer on Monday, March 20.

Speaking to NTV, Dan Ouma claimed that the officer is stationed close to where he works - indicating that he is someone who brought his car for routine maintenance checks.

The mechanic stated that he had not taken part in the protest, but went to work to protect his property.

"The police officer who shot me is stationed around where we work, probably someone who knows me. He is someone who brings his car to us to fix then he shoots me," he noted.

While recounting the events, Ouma alleged that he was shot twice by the officer who aimed his pistol at him.

"At 9:00 am, I parked my motorcycle and suddenly, I saw blood oozing from my arm. I turned around and saw an officer aiming a pistol at me."

"It felt like a sharp needle had pierced my body. I fell to the floor and hours later found myself at Nairobi Women's hospital and then was transferred to Mbagathi hospital," he pointed out.

The mechanic also stated that one of the bullets missed his spinal cord by a whisker and he experienced minor fractures. Ouma was discharged on Friday, March 31. He called upon police officers to exercise restraint when using live bullets in public and resort to other safer measures.

"If someone is in the wrong, arrest them and charge them instead of shooting at them," he added.

Kenyans.co.ke, however, could not independently verify the claims of the mechanic.

The revelation came as Azimio's Raila Odinga promised 'the mother of all demonstrations' on Monday, April 3.

“Let me tell you, on Monday, we shall have the mother of all demonstrations in Nairobi. We are undeterred and I urge Kenyans to turn out in larger numbers and from all corners to champion for their rights peacefully," he stated during the funeral service of former MP Grace Aketch Onyango in Gem Constituency in Siaya County on Friday, March 31.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, however, did not take kindly to Raila's remarks and vowed that the government would assert its authority on Monday, April 3.

“I want to caution those young men, who have been taking advantage of the violence unleashed by Raila to steal property, mug people and loot property, that Monday is their last day to do so," the DP stated in Malava, Kakamega County on April 1, 2023.
