President William Ruto on Tuesday, April 4, took a swipe at the Azimio la Umoja Leader Raila Odinga during his state visit to Rwanda.

While answering questions from Journalists, Ruto stated that the Opposition led by Raila Odinga was engaged in politics of wringing.

He wondered by Azimio la Umoja was making demands yet not revealing the basis of their allegations against his government.

"Five months after the election, they emerged with allegations from a whistleblower whom they refused to name," Ruto noted.

Ruot claimed that the Opposition was engaged in an exercise that was going to destroy the country, especially the economy which was in a shaky state.

According to the Head of State, he had no choice but to invite the Opposition for talks since the country was on the brink of economic destruction.

"As I said before, where we are right now, it does not matter who is right or wrong. The most important thing is to find solutions to the challenges that we face," Ruto noted.

However, Ruto cautioned that his invitation to Raila and his coalition did not necessarily mean that they will have a stake in his government.

The Head of State explained that there will be no 'Hand Shake' between him and Raila or the leadership of the Azimio la Umoja coalition.

"In our context, a handshake means something else. It is a system where the government is fused with the Opposition to create a mongrel where there is no accountability. We don't want to go back to such a system of governance," Ruto asserted.

Ruto stated that he is a firm believer in accountability, as such, he would like the Opposition to play its rightful role in the country.

"The Opposition is an integral part of our democratic system, and they must be given a chance to ensure that the government is accountable," Ruto stated.

President Ruto also clarified the terms of the Bipartisan Approach which he proposed on Sunday, April 2, at State House, Nairobi.

"I proposed an approach in which the contentious issues will be addressed by our institutions. In this case, some issues will be resolved in Parliament while others will be addressed elsewhere," Ruto stated.

The Head of State affirmed that he was willing to receive divergent views from all leaders, including religious, political and social leaders.
