A female student from Kenyatta University, June Jerop, pursuing a master's degree, was found dead on Monday, March 20, hours after leaving for a date with a mystery lover.
According to her family and friends, the girl's phone went off when she left the institution to meet her date at around 5 pm.
"Her friends told us she informed them that she was going to meet a male friend, but did not disclose much more about it," Jerop's sister lamented.
She was reportedly found dumped along the road in Nairobi before police transferred her body to the City Mortuary.
According to the police, her body was found swollen and blood-stained, raising questions about whether she was caught in the nationwide demonstrations or was murdered.
After several attempts to call her at work and school, her family filed a missing person report at the local police station.
Additionally, her colleagues detailed that it was not usual for the deceased to miss work. They also joined in the search in the hope of finding her alive.
The deceased's family and friends ended up at the morgue on March 24, positively identifying her body through her clothes and hairstyle.
"We suspect she was killed on Sunday, and her body dumped on the roadside on Monday morning," the deceased's sister told Nation Africa.
According to her sister, Jerop was a kindhearted person who did not deserve the cruelty of the suspects.
She went on to disclose that, as a family, they were in the process of raising money for their sick mother, adding that the incident has left the family heartbroken.
The family demanded justice from the authorities as they await an autopsy to be conducted. Police commenced investigations into the case, attempting to piece together her last conversations, hangout joints and any persons of interest.
