Story of Lady Who Started Business With Ksh5 Impressing CS Kuria

Tanya Ireri, an entrepreneur from Embu County, on Tuesday, April 4 impressed Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire.

During a business expo at the county, Ireri was praised for her innovative and entrepreneurial spirit.

"I was impressed by that great lady, she is doing such an amazing job and she is very confident and that is one of the things we must learn as young people," the governor stated.

The CS emphasised the government's commitment to boost business in the country by giving preference to locally produced goods.

"We have seen a lot of talent here, especially from Tanya. She seems to be ahead of the government in innovation, I must report this back to the President," Kuria stated.

Ireri narrated that she began her business with Ksh5 as a card designer while on campus where she sold the card for Ksh500.

She then ventured into farming after buying land in Embu prompting her to relocate, Ireri also mentors the youth in the county. She is a designer and founder of Azurri Designs.

Earlier, the CS had promised to support the entrepreneur as a way of encouraging the youth to focus on innovation and entrepreneurship.

"He promised me Ksh10 million sponsorship," the lady stated before going on her knees before the crowd.

"I managed to buy a piece of land in Embu County and started with chili farming before progressing to garlic farming then rabbit rearing," she explained.

Tanya holds a Bachelor's Degree in Commerce and Marketing from the University of Nairobi where she graduated in 2010.

"Honourable Kuria, thank you for promoting me and buying the bags. The funds if delivered will take the business to a new level,"  she requested.
