Azimio la Umoja Coalition on Friday, April 7, unveiled the names of three frontrunners in the running to replace Nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege as Deputy Minority Whip in the National Assembly.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Jubilee Party Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni shared details of boardroom negotiations which were meant to arrive at a single candidate to take over Chege's duties.
The three include Embakasii West MP Mark Mwenje, North Imenti Member of Parliament Dawood Abdul Rahim and Garissa County Woman Representative Amina Udgoon Kuno.
In his statement, the Jubilee SG argued that it was Jubilee Party's rightful obligation to replace Sabina, and not any Azimio la Umoja affiliated parties.

"The position for Deputy Minority Whip is a preserve for the Jubilee Party, and that is agreeable among all Azimio la Umoja parties," Kioni confirmed.
Kioni further confirmed that the talks within Jubilee Party top organ to approve one of the three frontrunners were already in top gear with the announcement expected to be made soon.
The three are well-known party loyalists who the Jubilee SG claimed stood by the President Uhuru Kenyatta-led political outfit.
Prior to joining politics in 2012, Mwenje served as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya as well as a Managing Partner at Mwenje and Karanja Advocates.
He also served as a Mediator and amassed experience in the areas of youth empowerment, infrastructural development, economic affairs and law.
The Embakasi West MP holds a Bachelor of Law Degree from Leeds University, a Diploma in Law from Kenya School of Law and a Master of Law from the University of Warwick.
Dawood, on the other hand, is serving his third term as the North Imenti MP and has been a strong supporter of the Miraa Business Community.
Having served as the Managing Partner in a number of businesses including oil and gas, Dawood is an experienced Legislator with strong business experience.
Kuno is an experience Legislator with great communication research skills and held a stint as the Chief Executive Officer for Udgoon Foundation.
He also served as Corporate and Client Relations Officer for Bushra Energy Limited before joining politics in 2017.
Sabina Chege Dewhipping
The dewhipping of Sabina Chege was agreed upon during Azimio la Umoja Parliamentary Group Meeting on Thursday, April 6, 2023.
In the resolution, Azimio la Umoja leadership noted that Sabina had shifted her loyalty to President William Ruto and his Depty Rigathi Gachagua.
On January 28, 2023, Sabina called on the people of Mount Kenyatta to support Gachagua as the sole kingpin of the vote-rich region.
"When we support Gachagua from the ground then he will be much respected even up there. You all know I was an Azimio diehard but just as I respect leadership, I also respect the decisions you made through your votes and that's why you saw me in State House the other day," she implored.
