A 12-year-old girl was reunited with her family in South B estate in Nairobi County on Friday, April 7, after her story was aired on Citizen TV.

According to the family, the girl - a South Sudanese, went missing on March 20 after being sent to buy food items at a nearby supermarket.

She did not return home until April 7, when the family learnt she was at a police station, seeking to find her way back home.

According to the police, the 12-year-old was taken to the station by an unidentified woman who saw the feature story by crime reporter, Hassan Mugambi, on Wednesday, April 5.

It was reported that the woman hosted the young girl after she found her loitering in Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).

However, the police arrested the woman as a person of interest, as investigations into the matter commenced.

It was indicated that the police were suspicious of the woman's accounts of events, wondering why she hosted the girl for more than two weeks without reporting the incident.

The girl's relative indicated that the woman explained that she only sought to help the 12-year-old, who appeared distraught and confused in the CBD.

"A woman who found her said that she found her roaming in town and went with her home. After seeing the story on Citizen TV, she decided to take her to the police. We are just happy that she is doing okay," she stated.

On the other hand, the family also indicated that they would seek professional help for the girl, who was still traumatised by the incident.

“The plan of the family is to take her back to South Sudan; we want to go and understand her and talk to her.

"It’s still too early and maybe she’s still too traumatised we need to give her time to cool down. Her mum is also worried and waiting to see her,” Luelbai Paul, the uncle, stated.
