Nakuru West Member of Parliament Samuel Arama on Wednesday, April 12 offered to build a house for four learners in Nyamira County whose mother abandoned them.
Speaking to the media, area sub-chief Hezron Ongaro revealed that Arama reached out to the family to start the process of building the house.
The lawmaker sent a team who bought personal effects for the children and ensured they returned to school.
"I have received the team sent by Arama to build them a house, and buy them food and school uniforms so that they get their basic needs," Ongaro noted.
In the meantime, the children will be jointly housed by the administrator and their neighbour until the end of the first term of the school calendar.
Arama confirmed that he would transfer them to boarding schools at the beginning of the second term to allow them to continue with their education without any interference.
The four children expressed gratitude to the lawmaker and promised to work hard in school. However, they pleaded with their parents to return.
Arama stepped in after the plight of the four children was highlighted by Citizen TV on April 8.
The four were from two different families. In one household, a class eight pupil was left to fend for herself and her brother after their mother walked out on them without any explanation.
In the second incident, the two children aged 10 and seven were abandoned by their mother who was overwhelmed by the high cost of living.
The mother had been raising them single-handedly after their father, who was a suspected criminal, vanished to evade arrest.
All the four children relied on help from neighbours and classmates for food and other basic needs.
