Images of a white Toyota Prado that was restored after an accident elicited debate from Kenyans online over its stylish transformation.
The vehicle, which remained a mangled wreck after the accident, was taken to the garage and photos later surfaced online of the vehicle's look after undergoing the modification.
The brains behind its design are that of the 31-year-old Kelvin Mukunu who revealed, in an exclusive interview with Kenyans.co.ke, that he uses a team comprising of ten members for a project including four-panel beaters, a mechanic and his assistant.
While detailing the step-by-step process of repairing the vehicle, he noted that his team assessed the vehicle to determine what would be replaced, and examine the engine and wiring before working on the automobile.
"We begin with the structure and body chassis, delve deep into mechanical work, paintwork and then we finish off with the wiring and body fitting which entails placing the leather seats onto the car," he stated pointing out that the parts are either locally or internationally assembled.
On how much it took to design the vehicle, Mukunu revealed that the team spent on average Ksh3 million to transform the vehicle.
He added that his clientele mainly involves insurers bringing cars involved in accidents who account for 85 per cent, corporates (10 per cent) and private (5 per cent).
Mukunu noted that he drew inspiration for the project from his father who worked as a mechanic while his uncle owned a garage where he spent most of his free time after completing his secondary education.
He noted that he dropped out of university after facing financial challenges, but believed that education opened his mind to tap into his creative space.
Insurance
Insurance companies are obliged to compensate for losses or injuries suffered in accidents or if a vehicle is stolen or catches fire.
Some of the factors they gauge include whether the driver was of sound mind if the vehicle was overloaded and whether the driver had a valid license.
Other aspects to watch out for include the expiration date of the insurance policy, outdated premiums and if no inspection was carried out.
