On Tuesday, April 17, residents of Siaya County took to the streets to demonstrate demanding the arrest of Deputy Governor William Oduol.

Locals claimed that Oduol was the voice in the leaked audio in which a man plotted an attack on Alego Usonga Member of Parliament (MP) Samuel Atandi.

The audio was played in one of the local vernacular radio stations after Atandi skipped the funeral ceremony where he was to be ambushed.

Irked by the recording, the residents concluded that Oduol was the face behind the voice and took to the streets.

"The intention by the DG to cause harm to Atandi should not be taken for granted. He is not going after the MP alone but the 80,000 plus electorates," one of the protesters told the press.

However, Oduol denied claims of threatening the lawmaker and dissociated himself from the leaked audio.

He argued that the voice note was scripted by his political rivals. A number of the protesters claimed that he was a Kenya Kwanza mole.

"We know that Oduol is dining with UDA. This is why Raila did not prefer him to become the governor," a protester claimed.

Armed with placards and twigs, the demonstrators matched to the Siaya County Assembly where they filed a petition to have the deputy governor removed.

In addition, they reported the incident at the County Commissioner's office and Siaya Police Station and demanded an investigation into the matter.

Oduol has been at loggerheads with Governor James Orengo and has on several occasions questioned his leadership.

On March 23, Siaya Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) summoned him over remarks he made claiming that Orengo hired questionable characters to the county government.
