Nairobi governor, Johnson Sakaja, on Thursday, April 20, started designating special parking zones for digital hailing taxis within Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).
In the latest move, Nairobi County employees zoned sections of the road within Nairobi CBD to alert other road users.
The reserved parking spaces were designated near pavements on busy streets, including Moi Avenue, Kenyatta Avenue and Biashara Street, frequented by traders.
According to a statement shared by digital hailing taxi drivers, the newly designated zones are set to help them pick up and drop off their passengers within the city.
The plan is also expected to help Governor Sakaja's administration tackle the traffic menace within the Central Business District.
Drivers lauded Sakaja, indicating that the designated zones would help them overcome challenges faced while dropping off and picking up passengers within CBD.
"We want to thank Nairobi Governor Sakaja Johnson for keeping his promise to Digital taxi drivers in Nairobi by allocating drop off and pick up locations within Nairobi CBD," the digital hailing drivers stated.
"Pestering drivers for outlawed dropping and picking will be a thing of the past," they added.
Setting designated parking zones aligns with Governor Sakaja's plan of setting 20 minutes of driving time in and out of Nairobi CBD.
Nairobi Mobility Department indicated that the new strategy would be implemented from Koja Roundabout to Haile Selassie Avenue.
"One of the key areas we aim to improve on during our Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) thematic area is to ensure vehicular movement reduction time from 45 minutes to 15 minutes along Tom Mboya and Moi Avenue," County Chief Officer, Boniface Nyamu stated.
