Former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho resurfaced on Friday, April 21, with a declaration to participate fully in expected Azimio protests.

Joho, who was missing in political activities since he left office, said he was away due to health reasons.

The ODM deputy party leader expressed his disappointment with the current high cost of living, blaming the Kenya Kwanza administration for not taking appropriate measures.

"Millions of Kenyans are struggling with the high cost of living, basic commodities are too expensive for the majority of citizens, we as Azimio cannot accept that," he stated.

When asked about his relationship with Azimio leader Raila Odinga, Joho explained that his support for Raila was intact.

"Raila is like me and I am like Raila. I subscribe fully to the ideology of Raila Odinga as my party leader," Joho confirmed to his supporters In Mombasa, Friday morning on his way to Idd celebrations.

He told Mombasa residents to prepare for more vigorous street protests soon.

"I will lead the demonstrations in front, Raila will be behind me," he narrated after being mobbed by his supporters.

On Sunday, January 8, Raila Odinga dispelled rumours of falling out with Joho, insisting that the ODM deputy chairman was out of the country on a personal venture.

He insisted that the two kept in touch, with Joho being briefed on the progress of protests back home.

Meanwhile, Joho resurfaced when Azimio supporters expect Raila Odinga to give more details on the resumption of protests after Ramadhan festivities

Raila Odinga, on Thursday, April 13, 2023, stated that he would announce the date for nationwide protests despite agreeing to talks with President Ruto.

"Immediately after the Ramadhan, I will announce when the countrywide mass actions will return," Raila assured, adding that the negotiations will go hand in hand with the protests," he stated.
