Former President Uhuru Kenyatta arrived at the Jubilee party headquarters on Wednesday, April 26, amid the controversy surrounding the party takeover.

In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the former president was mobbed by his supporters en route to the premises.

Anti-Riot police officers opened the gate for the former head of state while at the same time attempting to restore order at the scene.

The headquarters were cordoned off after Jeremiah Kioni’s and Kanini Kega’s supporters clashed over the party takeover.

After accessing the party offices, Uhuru condemned those seeking to cause chaos within the Jubilee regime.

"Anyone who wants to leave a party can join another. We have no quarrel with anyone. We want to guard our party, and those who do not want, are free to leave.

"Let us maintain peace. Police officers have better things to do other than coming here to restore peace. We don't have issues with anyone, our mandate is to maintain peace," he stated.

The former head of state added that mechanisms would be implemented to resolve the party grievances.

"We want to inform them (police officers) to go back to their stations and not to be used by people who want to cause chaos. We have a mechanism as a political party with which to solve our problems and we shall solve. We shall have our meetings as and when. The membership will decide the future of the party."

"So, I received a phone call from Kioni and update on what had transpired. I came to stand with him and our followers. I have no other duty than to protect our people's rights. Let's live in peace. We are peaceful people and wish to live in a peaceful country in co-existence with all the people of our party," he added.

Uhuru also directed Kioni to ensure those nursing injuries were rushed to nearby hospitals.

"The youth who got injured due to the scuffle, inform them to stay behind so that we can sort them and ensure they receive medical attention," he pointed out.

The chaos ensued at party offices after party officials allied to Kanini Kega and journalists were barred from entering the offices, leading to a commotion. Supporters then engaged police officers in running battles in attempts to breach the security barriers.

This was Uhuru's first engagement with Jubilee Party, having steered from direct involvement. Defecting Jubilee members led by Kega and Sabina Chege (Nominated MP) had accused Uhuru of silence and failing to steer the party.

The former President appeared once - at a rally in Vihiga, alongside his Azimio La Umoja party leader, Raila Odinga - on February 11, but declined to speak on Jubilee wrangles.

He, instead, assured the nation that he still supported Raila Odinga and the mass protests.
