Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) on Tuesday, May 2, announced that the commuter train that plies the Nairobi CBD-Limuru route, cutting through the Kikuyu Station, will not run and urged passengers to seek alternative routes.

Through a statement from the management, Kenya Railways noted that the change was due to unavoidable circumstances.

"We wish to notify members of the public that due to unavoidable circumstances, the commuter train that plies Nairobi CBD-Limuru route through Kikuyu Station will not run this evening," read part of the statement.

Kenya Railways further apologised to its esteemed customers for any inconvenience caused.

However, the corporation noted that commuter trains serving Lukenya, Syokimau, Embakasi Village and Ruiru Station will run as per schedule.

The Nairobi CBD-Limuru train was expected to depart at 5:20 pm and arrive in Limuru at 7.42 pm.

On the other hand, the train from Limuru to Nairobi Central Station was destined to leave at 5.30 pm and arrive in Nairobi at 7.52 pm.

The development was a blow to the corporation's clientele considering that on Wednesday, April 19, Kenya Railways announced additional coaches for Madaraka Express passenger service trains to be in service up to Friday, May 5.

According to the corporation, the move was aimed at helping it cater to the increased demand due to the school holidays.

Meanwhile, in June 2022, Kenya Railways Managing Director Philip Mainga noted that the corporation was looking to encourage commuters to use the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).

He explained that the coaches would include infotainment screens, conference halls, hotels, and sleeping areas.

"We are now going to put better services in terms of Wi-Fi in Madaraka Express trains," Maingi emphasised.
