National Assembly on Wednesday, May 3, witnessed chaotic scenes after Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi stated that Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta was the substantive leader of the Jubilee Party.
Wandayi reiterated that Uhuru was in charge of the party, which was the ruling political outfit until the August 2022 General Election.
No one, he underlined, would take that position from Uhuru since proper channels had not been followed to oust him from his position.
"The only thing I know is that the official leader of the Jubilee Party which is an affiliate of Azimio la Umoja is none other than His Excellency Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta," Wandayi stated.
Wanadyi's statement immediately attracted chaotic boos, which soon escalated when Eldas Member of Parliament Adan Keynan stood on the point of Order and declared Nominated MP Sabina Chege as the true leader of the Jubilee Party.
"Mr Speaker, is it in order for Honourable Wandayi to mislead this House that Mr Uhuru Kenyatta is the Party Leader of Jubilee when we know that we made a decision and our Party Leader is Honourable Sabina Chege?" Keynan asked.
What followed was a roaring shouting match between Kenya Kwanza and Azimio la Umoja allied Members of Parliament.
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula was forced to rise on his feet in an attempt to silence the MPs who were engaging each other in unprinted shouts.
However, the chaos persisted and Speaker Wetangula decided to send Alego Usonga Member of Parliament Samuel Atandi out of the chambers for violating his orders.
Atandi became the first MP to be kicked out of the chambers by Speaker Moses Wetangula, who had earlier warned the Legislators of dire consequences.
On Thursday, April 6, Azimio la Umoja resolved to eject nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege as its Minority Whip in the National Assembly.
The decision to kick Sabina out of the position was reached during the Parliamentary Group Meeting that was held in Machakos County.
