President William Ruto on Wednesday, May 3, announced a new university funding model that did away with block financing in form of capitation based on a differentiated unit cost.

A new funding model was introduced based on three categories; Vulnerable, the Less Vulnerable and the Able.

The vulnerable category consisting of 45,000 students were the only one pegged to get full capitation from the government.

This was despite a total of 173,345 students scoring a minimum university grade of C+ in the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
