The Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) on Tuesday, May 9, received backlash after an advert purported to have called for bidding for the supply of Mursik milk was shared widely.

However, Kenyans.co.ke established that the advertisement was outrightly doctored to mislead the public.

In the fake notice, the State Corporation allegedly asked farmers to bid to deliver delicious milk.

"KETRACO invites tenders from interested and eligible firms to bid for the tenders for supply and delivery of Mursik," the doctored advert claimed.

The advert further alleged that tender documents detailing the requirements may be viewed by clicking a link on the KETRACO website.

Further, the advert claimed that interested farmers had been called upon to file their bidding on SAP ARIBA, an e-procurement platform which KETRACO uses.

"Complete tender documents shall be electronically submitted through SAP ARIBA platform on or before the dates as indicated in the table above for specific tenders," the advert claimed.

KETRACO is mandated to plan, design, construct, operate, own, and maintain a high-voltage national electricity transmission grid.

Fact-Check and Verification

The original advert shows that mursik milk was not among the items Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) had put out a tender.

Senior Manager for Supply Chain and Acting Managing Director of KETRACO asked interested persons to bid for only four items, including the supply and delivery of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

A bid for the Procurement of Transmission Line Insulators for Overhead Lines Maintenance Works and Conductors for Overhead Lines Maintenance Works was also called.

The fourth tender was for the Restoration of Collapsed Towers on Loiyangalani - Suswa Transmission Lines, and mursik was not part of the items advertised.

"Tenders will be opened electronically promptly thereafter in the presence of the tenderers or their repre- sentatives who choose to attend in KETRACO Procurement Office at Kawi Complex, Block B, Second Floor," the Senior Manager stated.
