SME Cabinet Secretary Simon Chelugui on Wednesday, May 10 recalled a three-week operation to rid a town in Baringo County of goons.

In a statement, the CS explained that an armed trio terrorised business people in parts of Baringo South, Baringo County, for an extended period of time.

"It has been weeks of horrible nights for businesspeople in parts of Baringo South, Baringo County, following a series of robberies by an armed trio," Chelugui stated.

He explained that in liaison with the Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome and other agencies, the suspects were apprehended and sanity restored.

"I salute the courage of the police who, at the risk of their own life, save the lives of other people and do their duty so sincerely that they make sure no life or business suffers a loss to terrorism," he stated.

Chelugui noted that the security personnel involved were on the ground to hasten the operation.

Furthermore, the CS emphasised that the businesses of hustlers will be protected and no lives will be lost as a result of attacks from armed goons.

"I assure everyone that this government is committed to safeguarding every single citizen's life and that the arrested terrorists will face the full force of law," he assured.

According to data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) contained in the Economic Survey 2023, 868 crimes were reported in the county in the first quarter of the year.

Baringo was listed among counties where less than 1,000 crime cases were reported in the past year.

In the report, robbery recorded 3,125 cases, breaking (6,114 cases), and stealing (14,718 cases) across the country in 2022.

Notably, IG Koome earlier assured Kenyans of their safety as well as that of their business and property.
