Reportedly, the driver lost control while driving at high speed after the vehicle's brakes failed.

The CCTV further captured the impact of the lorry that forced some of the vehicles and motorbikes into the ditch and the middle of the road as residents scampered for safety.

Locals later rushed to the scene to rescue the survivors and rush them to the hospital.

Additionally, the impact of the truck overturning in the ditch destroyed a makeshift bridge at the pick-up stage including invaluable property.

From the accident, at least two people were reported dead while several others sustained multiple injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The incident came a month after a lorry rammed into boda boda operators in the area killing at least seven people on the spot.

Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Wednesday, April 19 announced a mandatory inspection of all vehicles to weed out unroadworthy vehicles.

"It has been noted that most of the crashes were caused by tyre bursts, brake failure while at high speed, and crashing into vehicles with substandard retroreflective strips thus affecting visibility in the road," the CS stated.

On Monday, May 8, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) launched a countrywide crackdown following Murkomen's orders.

Data from NTSA collected between January and March 2023, 1,072 people lost their lives in road accidents.
