Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni and Vice-Chairperson David Murathe on Thursday, May 11 took action after EALA MP Kanini Kega suspended the National Delegate Conference (NEC) notice issued by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

During a press conference, the duo noted that the meeting slated for May 22 was on as directed by Uhuru, urging its delegates to reject directives issued by the Kega faction.

They further dared Kega, and his colleagues allied with President William Ruto to attend and demand their exit from the Azimio coalition

According to Murathe, the ongoing war was not between Kioni and Kega. He hinted that President William Ruto was behind the wrangles adding that he was bitter for being kicked out of Jubilee.

"We are going on with the meeting as announced by our party leader. You (Kanini faction) cannot impose yourself by holding conferences in the streets and under trees," Murathe added.

On the other hand, Kioni called for the democracy of political parties, speaking against public interference.

He argued that those acting as party leaders were 'noise makers' and had no power to decide for the party.

"We are amazed at the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) for entertaining this drama. Those people have not been gazetted and therefore have no power," Kioni lamented.

Furthermore, Kioni questioned individuals funding the meetings held by Kanini Kega and other jubilee members outside the party headquarters in Kileleshwa.

On Wednesday, May 10, Kega suspended the conference, adding that the National Executive Committee (NEC) would convene a special meeting for all party delegates.

“The party will in due course issue a notice convening a Special National Delegates Conference pursuant to the resolution of NEC dated February 2023,” he added.

Uhuru had called for an NDC on May 22 to formulate new policies, receive a status report from the National Executive Committee (NEC), and consider and approve any other arising matters.
