Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, on Thursday, May 11, claimed that there was a plot to assassinate Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki a day before former IEBC chairman, Wafula Chebukati, announced the presidential results.

Speaking at the launch of For The Record book - authored by Defence CS Aden Duale - Gachagua alleged that President William Ruto's chief agent in the 2022 elections was to be eliminated on August 14, 2022.

He claimed the plot was part of plans aimed at scuttling Ruto's ascension to power.

However, the DP did not name those behind the plot and played cagey with whether Kindiki filed a report with the police.

"A man who I don't know whether he will write in his book that he was almost assassinated on August 14 is today the Minister of Interior - Professor Kithure Kindiki," he stated.

On the other hand, Gachagua added that many of their allies were also offered money to abandon Ruto before the elections, a move that turned out to be a futile move.

"What Kindiki said that we have little regard for money is true. Had this team given in to monetary offers, these people would be billionaires.

"Money was offered left, right and centre for the betrayal of Ruto but great men said no," he stated.

Notably,  Kindiki had steered clear of the claims during his speech before Duale took to the podium.

Ruto also did not comment on the matter and congratulated his allies for being loyal to him despite efforts to scuttle his presidential bid.

On January 18, however, Ruto alleged plans to assassinate former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati.

“We all know there was a direct attempt to abduct Wafula Chebukati and murder him so that the commission would be paralysed," the President claimed them.

His sentiments, however, did not sit well with Azimio leaders, who dared the Head of State to record a statement with the police.

"There is no one who plotted to kill Chebukati, if Ruto has the evidence, he should take it to the police for investigations for those who were involved to be arrested. It was political," Raila Odinga, former Prime Minister and Azimio La Umoja party leader, countered.
