A family from Kisumu County on Monday, May 15, dismissed claims that its kin died due to negligence at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH).
The deceased dying, it argued, was the will of God. While mourning the woman's demise, the relatives urged the public against sharing the viral video they claimed was false and misleading.
They also added that the deceased was not pregnant, as alleged in the video.
"I did not see the negligence of the doctors at the hospital. It is the work of God," Rachel Anyango, the mother, stated.
"My daughter was not pregnant she had a stomach ache among other complications. The medical staff at the JOOTRH casualty received us well, they attended to us," the mother added.
According to the family, their daughter died while being wheeled for an X-ray, as recommended by the doctor.
The family added that some rogue men at the hospital started filming, shouting that the woman was pregnant and dying without attention.
"I condemn the act of taking shots of us without consent and further tarnishing the name of the hospital by making false claims go viral," the distraught mother stated.
The mob, she added, reportedly harassed the medical staff in the scuffle that ensued.
On the other hand, the hospital also cautioned members of the public against sharing false information to avoid tarnishing the facility's name.
"Before you shoot clips and make them viral, it is important to confirm that the information you are sharing is factual, do not hinder people who need services from seeking them by tarnishing the name of the hospital," stated one of the doctors.
According to the medic, maternal mortality declined from 400 per 1000 births to 100 at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH).
The 25-year-old mother of one died on Sunday, May 14. Following the incident, the hospital launched an investigation to determine the motive behind the video.
