The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced that police officers on Tuesday, May 23, arrested three suspects connected with the theft of Ksh8 million stashed in a safe in an abandoned petrol station in Nyandarua.
In a statement, the DCI noted that they recovered Ksh2.5 million from the robbery orchestrated in April 2023.
“Police have arrested 3 suspects in connection to the disappearance of Sh8 million, stolen from a Kiambu-based businessman.
“In the incident reported late last month by the businessman’s wife, the money was stolen from a safe hidden in the abandoned pump station located at Kinangop in Nyandarua County,” the DCI stated.
They added that the suspects would be arraigned in court to face charges for their crimes.
“The suspects are believed to have gained entry into the building through the roof before helping themselves with the cash after breaking the safe.
“A total of Ksh2.5 million has since been recovered from the suspects identified as DM, MC, and EW. The suspects are facing charges of Stealing by Servant contrary to Section 281 of the Penal Code,” noted the DCI.
Constitutionally, Section 281 of the Penal Code Cap 63 states that, “If the offender is a clerk or servant, and the thing stolen is the property of his employer, or came into the possession of the offender on account of his employer, he is liable to imprisonment for seven years.”
In a separate incident, detectives from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau of the DCI posed as jua kali traders and arrested two robbery suspects in Kakamega County on May 22.
The suspects were linked to the robbery of a high-ranking DCI officer in the county.
“The officer based at DCI Kakamega North, had just arrived at his residence at around 3 am from an assignment in Nairobi, when the thugs who were on a motorbike accosted him at his gate,” the DCI noted in a statement.
The DCI encouraged citizens to report crime through their hotline 0800 722 203.
