Nakuru governor, Susan Kihika, on Friday, May 26, responded to media reports questioning her disappearance from the limelight.
Governor Kihika issued a thinly veiled response, wondering why her disappearance was of nationwide interest.
Her responsibilities, she argued, were of top priority, and even in her absence, development projects in Nakuru County have been underway.
"I understand that they have to sell their media productions. I'm at work," Kihika stated as she chided the media against tracking her.
In her response, however, Governor Kihika did not clarify why she has been away from the public for more than a month, raising speculations.
Hours before issuing the statement, Kihika shared photos of development projects on her social media pages, expressing utmost confidence in her team.
Kihika explained that she was exercising her mandate as the Governor of Nakuru County, and noted that she had the interest of her people at heart.
"Another borehole done. Another fulfilled promise. Water for Kiambiriria residents in Turi Ward, Molo Sub-county," Kihika noted as she witnessed the drilling of a borehole that will supply water to several families in the village.
On Tuesday, May 23, a media report questioned the conspicuous absence of the Nakuru Governor.
The report noted that the usually vibrant governor was last seen on April 10, 2023, when attending a meeting hosted by the Council of Governors.
She then missed key events in her county, including the installation of Bishop Cleophas Oseso Tuka of the Nakuru Catholic Diocese, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's meeting with Nakuru MPs and a tour by the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Musalia Mudavadi.
Insiders close to her claimed that she travelled abroad on an official matter. Despite the governor's active social media presence, this information could not be traced on her pages.
