The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers attached to Bungoma Police Station on Tuesday, May 30, launched an investigation into the teachings of a local preacher.

The Bungoma-based prophet, popularly known as Nabii Yohana wa Tano, was summoned by DCI officers for questioning on Friday, June 2, 2023.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Bungoma Police Commander Francis Kooli confirmed asking Nabii, whose real name is Geoffrey Wanyama Nakalila, to appear at his office in order to assist investigators with the ongoing probe.

"We are investigating a number of issues relating to his teachings and doctrines," Francis Kooli noted as he confirmed that the officers had been reviewing evidence gathered over the preacher.

Kooli on Monday, May 29, led a team of investigators to the home of Nabii Yohana wa Tano where they conducted preliminary interviews.

The self-proclaimed prophet is the leader of Muungano Church for All Nations which is located in Nandolia village, Kanduyi, Bungoma County.

The 83-year-old Nabii Yohana wa Tano is married to 42 wives, with the youngest being 24 years old, recently married and made a prophetess.

The 42 wives have collectively given birth to 289 children, most of who are under the age of eighteen and are said to be under questionable doctrines.

"It is becoming apparent that Nabii Yohana wa Tano has created his own Bible containing 93 books, which is a deviation from the standard Holy Bible that contains only 66 books," Kooli noted.

It was on the basis of this allegation that officers from the Bungoma Directorate of Criminal Investigations were seeking answers over his doctrines which are exclusively taught to members of the Muungano Church for All Nations.

It was further claimed that Nabii Yohana wa Tano introduced 12 commandments instead of the traditional 10 commandments which are contained in the Holy Bible.

Nabii Yohana wa Tano was reported by villagers who complained about his teachings.
