Bungoma Police Commander, Francis Kooli on Wednesday, May 10 revealed five areas of investigation after summoning Eliud Wekesa popularly known as Yesu wa Tongaren.

Kooli noted that the self-pronounced Christ was questioned for about three hours at the Bungoma Police Station.

The commander disclosed that one of the issues police questioned Yesu wa Tongaren about was why he changed his name and whether he followed the right procedures.

"There are procedures to follow to change your name according to the law. If he has not followed the law, we will guide him to do it the right way," Kooli explained.

Kooli revealed that his church and teaching were at the centre of the investigations following the alarming rate cults and false religious leaders were reported in the country.

Another area of interest was the number of followers he had to determine the influence of his church.

Furthermore, Kooli wanted to establish the location of his church, as well as his teachings and whether it was registered in line with the Constitution.

"We want to know if his teachings will require the interpretation of experts. He will also reveal when he got the calling," Kooli added.

However, the police boss clarified that the religious leader was not arrested but was only being questioned before further action was taken.

After being released from the station, Wekesa briefly stated that all was good.

Meanwhile, when summoned on Monday, May 9, Yesu wa Tongaren pleaded with the police not to arrest him.

"It would be unfair if they arrested me since the law punishes those who are on the wrong side. If you have done no wrong, then why be arrested?" the leader questioned.

Wekesa further dismissed allegations that some of his followers failed to return home after visiting his church.

His summon came after President William Ruto formed a task force, for a six-month period, to review the regulatory framework for religious organisations in the country.
