Nine recruits were killed after a car bomb exploded inside Somali National Army (SNA) training school in Kismayo on Saturday morning.
African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) confirmed that six recruits had been injured and three AMISOM trainers had been hurt in a post on its official Twitter page.
They added that two terrorists who were in the vehicle with the explosives had been killed.
Two accomplices were later arrested and are currently been interrogated by SNA.
The army training school is located at the old airport in Kismayu.
It is not clear how the extremists gained access into the barracks.
