David Mulunda, a taxi driver, was temporarily arrested on the morning of Wednesday, June 7, along Forest Road after his car broke down while the motorcade of President William Ruto was making its way to Safari Park for the 2023 annual National Prayer Breakfast.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Wednesday, June 7, Mulunda narrated the ordeal stating that he was going about his job when his tyre burst forcing him to stop the car.
While tinkering with the car to ascertain the mechanical problem, a motorbike attached to Ruto's motorcade stopped and instructed him to move away from the road.
"I heard my back tyre bursting so I had to stop to make sure that everything was okay. As I was inspecting the car, a motorcycle stopped and commanded me to move my car from the road into Muthithi Road," he narrated.
Mulunda stated that he had no knowledge that the president's motorcade was scheduled to use the road at that time.
He was, therefore, confused when arrived at the scene to push the car out of the road. Immediately, the officers began searching his vehicle suspecting that he had an ulterior motive.
"More officers came and helped push my car out of the way. They then started searching the car stating that they did not believe that the puncture was a coincidence," he added.
When the officers failed to find suspicious activity, they stopped the seearch to allow the motorcade to pass and then quickly called police officers from Parklands Police Station to take over the matter.
Mulunda stated that he was interrogated for over an hour in line with the incident.
"The officers questioned me for more than an hour because they could not believe that I was unaware that the motorcade would pass through that road. They thought I had planned something," he recalled.
After several hours, Mulunda was eventually released by the officers and allowed to repair his vehicle.
