A dashcam captured the moment an impetuous driver crashed while driving along a busy road on Thursday, June 15,  in Karatina, Nyeri County.

The video showed the driver of a black saloon car speeding and dangerously swerving in and out of traffic after he failed to overtake the vehicles ahead of him.

As a result, the driver of the black saloon car almost hit a white sports utility vehicle but missed it by a whisker as oncoming cars reacted to avoid a head-on coalition.

In the mix of confusion, the hasty driver nearly collided with another car, but this time, he lost control and crashed into a ditch on the right side of the road.

Unfortunately, the car also crashed into a boda boda rider who attempted to avoid the collision on the seemingly busy road close to Karatina University.

The driver who recorded the event immediately stopped and watched in awe as the hasty driver overtook dangerously and crashed by the roadside.

The video was shared widely on social media, with many people expressing their anger at the driver's recklessness. Some called for the driver to be arrested and charged with reckless driving.

"This accident was very unnecessary," a Twitter user identified as Joseph warned other motorists who may want to drive recklessly on a busy highway.

Others observed that the crash was a reminder of the dangers of speeding and driving dangerously, noting that it was important to always drive safely and obey the rules of the road.

On its website, the Kenya National Police Services advises motorists to only overtake when it is safe to do so. This means that there is no oncoming traffic and that the road is clear ahead of the driver.

"Signal your intention to overtake well in advance. This will give other drivers time to react and make space for you. Check your mirrors and blind spots before you move into the oncoming lane. Make sure there are no other vehicles that you could collide with," read part of the statement by the police.

Drivers are also told to accelerate assertively to overtake the slower vehicle. The service explains that drivers should not dawdle in the oncoming lane.

"Pull back into your lane as soon as you have safely passed the slower vehicle. Don't linger in the oncoming lane. Be aware of other road users, such as cyclists and pedestrians.

"Don't overtake if there is a risk of hitting them. Overtaking can be a dangerous manoeuvre, but it can be done safely if you follow these tips," the National Police Service explained.
