President William Ruto on Wednesday, June 21, was a co-driver at the opening of the 2023 FIA World Rally Championship in Naivasha.
The Head of State - who donned a black rally attire and helmet - had the experience of being a co-driver for close to a minute under the guidance of a professional rally driver.
At first, the vehicle was reversed before accelerating forward for close to 10 meters. A rally official was also outside the vehicle guiding them on how to steer the vehicle.
The president's security team maintained its distance even as they remained on the lookout.
After parking, the Head of State was also helped out of the vehicle before he took off the driving gear.
"The Safari Rally has contributed a singular spectacle to global motorsport.
"The 2023 FIA World Rally Championship edition will continue the magnificent tradition that has turned it into a challenging yet exciting and distinguished fixture in the global calendar," Ruto stated after the Naivasha launch.
At the event, the President was also photographed driving his personal vehicle.
Ruto was behind the wheel of the black Lexus 570 car which flew the Kenyan flag and the presidential standard.
During the ride, the Head of State interacted with on-lookers that included dishing out random thumps up.
The 2023 FIA World Rally Championship edition is set to take place for three days.
The Head of State was accompanied by Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba, Tourism CS Peninah Malonza, Labour CS Florence Bore and Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika.
