Malkit Rooprai, born in Thika before moving to the UK in 1978, on Thursday, June 22, recounted his exhilarating journey from the UK all the way to Kenya by road.

Driving his Landcruiser across 18 different countries for a period of seven months, Rooprai was on a mission to create awareness about Africa to encourage his countrymen to visit.

Through his journey, the man took photos in different countries to preserve memories of their diverse cultures.

"What a wonderful experience it has been traveling across Africa. I have been on the road for seven months, exploring many countries and raising awareness on the beauty and great potential of this amazing continent," he stated.

He drove through, Britain, France, Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania, Gambia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Nigeria, Congo, Angola, Namibia, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, and Uganda before landing in Kenya.

Upon arrival in Kenya, the adventurer visited Thika town where he reminisced his childhood memories and interacted with friends. Later, he shipped his car back to the UK on Wednesday, June 21.

The 65-year-old was thankful to his sponsors who guided him through the journey.

"I thank my fans on social media. It started off small but grew large. It was such great inspiration, I appreciate all the comments and well wishes," he added.

His vehicle was fitted with a tent and a fridge to preserve his food. According to Rooprai, his car did not have any specialised modifications for the journey.

Rooprai revealed that the journey was motivated by the desire to see the world, especially through the road adding that choosing to travel alone was to protect his family from any risk.

"It was a long journey but the good thing was that I did not have a timeline. I only planned on a day-to-day basis depending on the area," he narrated.

He, therefore, encouraged individuals embarking on similar long-distance journeys to ensure the area was safe and possess relevant documents to cross the borders.
