Earlier, he stole their attention by sharing a relatable story of how Kenya had conquered the world in athletics. Ruto credited Kenya for producing the greatest-ever athletic legends, a statement which was welcomed with deafening applause and cheers.

"I bring you greetings from Kenya, the land of the greatest marathoners from the youngest continent in the globe.

"It is wonderful to see you wonderful people from around the world in one of the most historic cities, under the magnificent Eiffel Tower," Ruto stated.

After creating a rapport with the youth at Eiffel Tower, Ruto proceeded to share how Kenya and other African countries were devastated by the ravaging effects of drought.

He expressed concern telling the thousands that the climate was worsening, becoming a crisis. He, however, expressed optimism asking the youth to help drive change.

"The climate crisis is worsening yearly, with millions losing their lives and livelihoods to drought, flash floods, heatwaves, cyclones and wildfire.

"Luckily, the solutions to make a difference are in our hands, and when I see you, I see the solutions to our challenges," Ruto advocated for a cause.

He also implored global lenders to overhaul the financial systems enabling affected countries, including Kenya, to tackle climate change and distribute resources equally to avert the looming climatic crisis

As his message resonated with the youth, the Head of State detailed that despite facing the crisis, Kenya had taken the lead in championing green energy sources. He listed solar energy, wind and geothermal as green energy sources contributing to electricity generation in the country.

Besides changing the financial architecture, Ruto proposed using technology to tackle the climate change crisis.

"We call for a global financial system that is fit for purpose; we want a financial system that is fair and transparent," he insisted.

Before leaving the stage, Ruto invited thousands of youth to attend the inaugural Africa Climate Summit, which will be held in Nairobi from September 4 to 6.
