Gladys Wanga Appoints Veteran Journalist Victor Ongiri as Chief Officer

Homa Bay Governor, Gladys Wanga, on Friday, June 23, appointed journalist and communication expert Isaac Victor Ongiri as the Chief Officer of Administration and Devolution.

In a gazette notice dated June 22, the county boss announced that she settled on Ongiri and other appointees after the Homa Bay County Assembly vetted them. 

"I, Gladys Nyasuna Wanga, Governor, Homa Bay County, appoint the listed persons to be Chief Officers in the County Government of Homa Bay for the Departments indicated upon successful vetting by the Homa Bay County Assembly," read part of the gazette notice.

Ongiri worked at the Nation Media Group as a senior political reporter for the Daily Nations weekly and Sunday newspapers.

He has also had a stint at Standard Media Group, and the Star as a parliamentary reporter.

Besides the media, Ongiri served as a Public Affairs Specialist for the Makueni County Government and the Director of Communication for the Kisii County Government.

"I loved it (journalism), and upon joining High School at Homa-Bay High School in 1996, I shortly joined the school's journalism club where I enhanced my talent. I became the Editor in Chief of the school magazine," he says on LinkedIn.

The journalist holds a master's degree in Arts in International Relations from the University of Nairobi and a bachelor's degree in Communications and Public Relations from Moi University.

Other officers appointed by the county government were Elijah Obiny Dede (Co-operatives Development and Marketing), Bernard Ouru Nyobange (Roads and Transport), Owino Hannington Day (Lands and Physical Planning), and Collins Onyango Obango (Water and Sanitation).

Including Charles Obondo (Housing and Urban Development), Jack Maurice Obonyo (Blue Economy and Fisheries), Bernard Okoth Omwanda (Livestock Development), and Ombok Mildred Judith (Gender Inclusivity Planning and Women Empowerment).

Additionally, Wilson Juma Ochola (Economic Planning and Budgets), Maxwell Majiwa Omenda (Irrigation), Carren Atieno Otieno (Public Communication), Ellyas Orongo Oketch (Investment), Diana Anyango Ongere (Mining) and Kennedy Odhiambo Ojala (Stakeholder Management).
