A Tuk Tuk with a touch of sophistication turned heads on a Kenyan highway owing to its unique design and features.
The electric automobile displayed impeccable craftsmanship, captivating many road users with its presence as it offered an alternative to the noisy open Tuk Tuk Kenyans are accustomed to.
Research conducted by Kenyans.co.ke indicated that the Tuk Tuk is assembled locally in Mombasa, with its demand soaring higher in the last few months.
Its versatile design allows motorists to convert it to ferry cargo transport or passengers.
The motor vehicle, which costs between Ksh450,000 and Ksh600,000, was nicknamed ‘V8 Tuk Tuk’ after Toyota Landcruiser powered by a V8 turbo engine.
One Kenyan commenting on social media remarked that he was impressed to see that the Tuk Tuk, which combines the beauty of a normal three-wheeler with the eco-friendliness of an electric vehicle, being used as a Public Service Vehicle (PSV).
The Tuk Tuk offers a better travel experience than other models since it is quiet and more comfortable due to its improved suspension and seating.
According to Alin Group, a Tuk Tuk production company based in China, Kenyans willing to buy it in bulk can import it at Ksh254,000, excluding taxes and other logistic expenditures.
The electric model, which offers an emission-free solution for mobility, takes between eight to ten hours to charge fully, giving it a range power of up to 100 kilometres.
The ‘V8 Tuk Tuk’ has a manually operated door and windows despite being electric.
In Kenya, the model is expected to revolutionise the industry as it is cost-effective and can carry up to five passengers plus cargo in a single trip. It also offers ample legroom and shields commuters from extreme weather conditions.
Besides offering great benefits to motorists and passengers, electric Tuk Tuks aim to promote green energy and create sustainable growth.
“It has no engine, so avoids engine repair and overhaul and is also cost-saving on spare parts because it has no periodic serviced parts like the air filter fuel filler, oil filter and doesn’t need oil and lubricants,” the Mombasa assembling firm touted the machines.
Unlike electric vehicles needing a dedicated charging station, electric Tuk Tuks can be charged at home using a normal power socket like a smartphone.
