TSC Announces Internships With Ksh 20K Monthly Stipend; How to Apply

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) on Wednesday, July 5 announced 20,000 positions for intern teachers for both Junior Secondary Schools (18,000) and Primary Schools (2,000).

According to the job advert published by the commission, the interns will be distributed across 47 counties with Kitui County being allocated 758 intern teachers.

Those placed in primary schools will be eligible for a monthly stipend of Ksh15,000 while those in Junior Secondary Schools will get Ksh20,000.

The internship period will be for 12 months for the financial year 2023/2024.

It targets unemployed registered teachers to be assigned to learning institutions where their teaching experience will be enhanced through mentorship, coaching, and exposure to practical teaching experience.

How to Apply
All interested candidates were required to make online applications through the official website tsc.go.ke under the Careers tab or visit teachersonline.tsc.go.ke.

The commission warned all applicants that no manual submission would be considered.

Some of the stipulated requirements for JSS interns include;

  • One must be a Kenyan citizen.
  • One must be a holder of at least a Diploma in Education with a minimum mean Grade of C+ (plus) and C+ (plus) in two teaching subjects in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KSCE) or its equivalent.
  • One must be a registered teacher with the Teachers Service Commission.

On the other hand, requirements for primary school teacher interns include;

  • One must be a Kenyan citizen.
  • One must be a PI certificate holder.
  • One must be registered with TSC.

TSC added that teachers with Upgrade Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (CBC) will have an added advantage.

All successful candidates will be required to have Personal Accident Insurance to cover personal risks during the internship period.

Some of the required documents include copies of the Teacher Registration Certificate from the TSC online portal, the National Identity Card or passport, the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) card, the Kenya Revenue Authority Personal Identification Number (KRA PIN), and two coloured passport-size photos.

Also, where applicable the candidates should attach a copy of the National Council for Persons with Disability (NCPWD).

TSC emphasised that the recruitment process was free and fair, warning the applicants against falling into the traps of fraudulent individuals.

"Any fraudulent activity should be reported to the nearest TSC office or Teachers Service Commission headquarters or the nearest police station," TSC added.

All submissions should be made before July 18, 2023.
