Police were puzzled by how four riffles and bullets stored at the Griftu Police Station armoury in Wajir County went missing on Wednesday, July 6.

According to the OB seen by Kenyans.co.ke, detectives attached to the case reported that the armoury was not broken into, raising speculations of an inside job.

Following the incident, the OCS and the armourer were arrested after the County Criminal Investigation Officer (CCIO) of Wajir County launched an investigation into the case.

Preliminary reports indicated that the high-calibre rifles were still at the police station, forcing the detectives to conduct a thorough search to trace the weapons at a time when Kenya's security is facing a spate of attacks

"It was initially thought to be a misplacement, but on further scrutiny, the rifles were discovered missing from the station armoury," read part of the OB.

The riffles missing were a G3 rifle S/no. G3 F89936, Ak 47 rifle S/no Kp 5501679, Ak 47 rifle S/no 5503607 and o Ak 47 rifle S/no 5522034.

Additionally, 90 rounds of 7.62mm×39special and 20 rounds of 7.62mm× 51 were reported missing.

It was reported that the armoury was locked and had two keys, one held by the OCS and the other by the armoured, making them the prime suspects in the robbery.

Meanwhile, in November 2022, thugs broke into Kipasi Police Post in Homa Bay County and stole four guns and 110 bullets.

The police detailed that the unknown persons had broken into the building through the window.

Following the incident, 500 police officers were deployed to the village to trace and recover the guns around the police base.

After a span of two weeks, a significant breakthrough occurred in the case as one of the stolen guns was successfully recovered.

One suspect, accused of breaking into the police post, was also arrested.
