Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi on Saturday, July 8 broke his silence on the talks he held with former President Uhuru Kenyatta in Nigeria on May 30.
Speaking at a funeral in Ikolomani Constituency, the former Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader revealed that their discussion centred around President William Ruto's ascension to power and the handing over done at Kasarani Stadium on September 13, 2022.
According to Mudavadi, Uhuru indicated that he handed over to the winner wondering why former Prime Miniter Raila Odinga was disgruntled about the election results.
"Our brothers in the opposition keep on complaining. I once met Uhuru in Nigeria and also met him in Bujumbura (in Burundi) and Uhuru said that he had already handed over power.
"He is the chairman of Azimio and he says he already gave over the reins of power. Do you think there was anything wrong with him handing over? That is a clear answer that he recognised who the winner was," he divulged.
Mudavadi also called on the opposition to take cue and give Ruto time to implement his development agenda.
The former Deputy Prime Minister also appealed to Raila and his troops to rally behind the government to address the issues affecting Kenyans.
This was the first time that Mudavadi was speaking publicly about the widely circulated photos from the May 30 meeting.
Uhuru and Mudavadi met in Nigeria on May 30 while attending the inauguration of President Bola Tinubu. Mudavadi was representing Ruto at the event.
The former Head of State was invited in his official capacity as the leader of the African Union (AU) election observers.
Following the meeting in Nigeria, the former Head of State shared photos of the meeting but did not divulge details about what was discussed.
Contrary to Mudavadi's version of events, some of Ruto's allies assert that the former President continues to undermine Ruto's leadership.
Recently, digital strategist Dennis Itumbi alleged that Uhuru orchestrated the Saba Saba demonstrations. According to the communications expert, Uhuru played a central role in planning mass protests in different parts of the country after meeting Azimio MPs in a private meeting.
