The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) on Tuesday, July 11, announced a planned temporary closure on a section of the busy Mombasa Road to allow maintenance works.

The planned closure will start on Tuesday, July 11 and end on Sunday, July 16. The authority will close the section between the Nairobi Expressway exit at Mlolongo to the Athi River Interchange.

According to KeNHA, the closure is to allow for highway maintenance works along the section.

“KeNHA wishes to notify the public that there will be a temporary closure of a section of the Mombasa-bound carriageway between Mlolongo (near the expressway exit) to the Athi River Interchange from Tuesday, July 11, to Sunday, July 16, between 10:00 pm and 4:00 am," the highways authority announced.

“Normal traffic shall be restored daily upon completion of works at 4.30 am.”

KeNHA revealed that traffic would be diverted to share one adjacent lane of the dual carriageway.

“Motorists are advised to approach the section with caution and to follow the traffic signs and guidance as directed by the traffic Marshall and police,” the statement read in part.

The closure is expected to cause disruption and congestion in the stretch which is characterised by trucks loading and offloading from adjacent industries.

Mombasa Cement and Polytanks and Containers Kenya Limited are among the industries in the stretch under maintenance.

Residents staying in Delta Plain Estate, Marimbeti and Sheshe Gardens will also be affected by the planned maintenance.

Kenyans visiting Signature Mall in the hours the stretch will be under maintenance will also be affected.

KeNHA is responsible for the development, rehabilitation, management and maintenance of all national trunk roads across the country.
