The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) on Wednesday, May 24, announced plans to modify various sections of the Nairobi Expressway.
In a joint statement with Moja Expressway, KeNHA indicated that the changes to be undertaken included the construction of additional lanes at the Museum Hill Exit.
Additional lanes will also be constructed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) entrance.
It was explained that the planned changes were informed by concerns regarding traffic snarl-up that had been experienced at the toll stations.
On the other hand, the road agency also maintained that plans were underway to construct the exit at the Central Business District (CBD).
The exit is expected to be introduced at the Green Park Terminus.
"These upgrades will involve the addition of extra lanes at the Museum Hill Exit and the JKIA Entrance and the construction of a new Haile Selassie Toll Station Exit to facilitate the seamless flow of traffic into the CBD.
"As part of the preparation process, Kenya National Highways Authority plans to hold public consultation stakeholders consultative meetings in conformity to the provisions of the Constitution of Kenya and Environmental Management and Coordination Act (EMCA) Cap 387," read the notice in part.
Consequently, Kenyans were advised to give their suggestions regarding the planned exercise
"KeNHA wishes to invite the public and stakeholders to join the discussion on June 5, 2023, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Green Park Terminus, Uhuru Park," read the notice in part.
The road agency also noted that written submissions over the project could be made through the email address - enquiries@centricafrica.com.
Earlier in April, Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen indicated that the construction of the exit would take eight months.
"The construction of the exit will take eight months from the date of the issuance of the contracting authority which is expected to be communicated to the project developer by the end of this month," he stated.
