With the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal ratifying the ouster of Jeremiah Kioni as Jubilee Party secretary general, the former Ndaragwa lawmaker resorted to seeking legal redress.

However, on Tuesday, July 11, while addressing the media at the Stephen Kalonzo Centre in Karen, he argued that the ruling was biased and proceeded to highlight flaws to substantiate his claims.

Kioni who spoke at the launch of Tumechoka Initiative, an antigovernment platform unveiled by the Azimio La Umoja to collect signatures to discredit President William Ruto's administration, cried foul that the judgement had been prepared beforehand

“The judgement that was delivered had already been delivered to us by Kanini Kega’s team through their tweets over the weekend.

“It is clear within the system they are the ones in charge of the process,” Kioni alleged that Kanini Kega was holding the Judiciary captive, allegations that his nemesis refuted.

Kioni, in remarks which may provoke the ire of government fanatics and attract the attention of investigative agencies, claimed to possess a subsequent judgement that was scheduled to be read on Tuesday, July 11, at 2:00 PM.

The judgement was in relation to a case that he filed, challenging the decision to expel him from the former ruling party

“We have the letter from the tribunal, which will be delivered today at the High Court, complaining about the availability of judgement, especially those by the majority because the minority judgements are not delivered ahead of time,” he lamented.

Nonetheless, he expressed confidence in the High Court, stating that it would deal with the matter expeditiously.

In a reassuring statement addressed to his supporters, the former secretary-general emphasised that he was firmly in control of the party structures despite the setback.

He, however, played coy with his remarks which may be cited as contempt by Kega and his allies.

On Monday, July 10, the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal upheld the decision by the Jubilee National Executive Committee (NEC) to kick Kioni and former vice chairperson David Murathe out of the outfit.

Subsequently, East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament Kanini Kega’s nomination as the new Secretary General was upheld.
