Azimio La Umoja on Wednesday, July 19, claimed that Raila Odinga's bodyguard Maurice Ogeta and spokesperson Dennis Onyango have been whisked away by police to unknown locations.

Ogeta and Onyango have served the veteran opposition politician for years. Kenyans.co.ke could not independently verify the information as calls and texts to police bosses went unanswered.

Raila Secretariat at Capitol Hill, Nairobi, confirmed the arrest of Onyango who was picked up by police in plain clothes from his house on Raila Odinga Road (formerly Mbagathi Way).

Onyango was reportedly forcefully ejected from his house and bundled inside a Subaru car commandeered by people who did not reveal their identities, according to Raila's secretariat.

Ogeta's arrest was confirmed by ODM's director of communications Phillip Etale.

"Unknown people in plain clothes suspected to be police officers from the DCI have abducted Raila Odinga’s bodyguard Maurice Ogeta while driving to work bundled him in the car boot and driven away with him to an unknown destination. His whereabouts remain unknown," Etale claimed.

Onyango's son also confirmed his father's arrest, alleging that the family was threatened before the long-serving aide and former journalist was whisked away.

Etale also confirmed the alleged arrest of Raila's personal guard in a statement.

"Police have a few minutes ago raided the house of Raila Odinga's spokesman Dennis Onyango, along Mbagathi Way ransacked it, and arrested him. His son says they have driven off with him in two Subaru vehicles," Etale claimed.

The reports came hours after other key members of the Raila Nairobi political machine were arrested in a move to puncture the protests that have threatened to bring the capital to a halt.

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino and self-styled ghetto president Calvins Gaucho were arrested Tuesday evening while reports emerged on Wednesday midmorning that Makadara MP George Aladwa was also in custody.

The opposition is staging a three-day anti-Ruto protests and as of the time of publishing, there had not been any serious breakout of protests or violence.
