Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Friday, July 21, divulged more information about his alleged house arrest, which was previously announced by the opposition.
According to the former Vice President, a white Volkswagen was parked outside his Karen residence with approximately seven officers monitoring his movement, with the intention of arresting him.
"My family and I are fine, but it is not right psychologically to know you can not leave your house.
"They have not pressed any charges, as they know I have not done anything wrong," a worried Kalonzo lamented, insisting that he was under house arrest.
According to the former Vice President, the police instructed his security team to warn him against leaving the premises lest he be arrested arbitrarily.
Former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, on Friday, July 21, confirmed that Kalonzo was detained and his movement restricted. However, the opposition sent National Assembly Minority leader, Opiyo Wandayi, and embattled Jubilee Secretary General, Jeremiah Kioni, to offer him support.
In other developments, Kalonzo declined to reveal more information on his meeting with diplomats at his Karen home.
Reports had earlier alleged that representatives of the United Nations, United States, European Union, and Denmark visited the Azimio principal. However, the agenda of the meeting was not publicised, raising speculation that the parties may have discussed events centred around the nationwide protests.
"We agreed with the diplomats that the meeting would be held without media briefing, but (I can confirm the diplomats came)," he stated.
The brief meeting with the foreign envoys, he argued, worsened his predicament as more police were deployed to his premises soon after they left.
However, he observed that the government's tactics motivated him to be firm and prepared for any possibility. Kalonzo emphasised that he would not hide from the law enforcers who were reportedly dispatched to arrest him.
He underscored that the protests would not only benefit Azimio la Umoja but the nation as a whole. President William Ruto, he emphasised, must repeal the Finance Act and address concerns raised by Kenyans.
"These are not Azimio or opposition rallies. These are not opposition. These are Kenyans who are feeling the yoke of the high cost of living. They cannot afford food for their families. So it is the whole nation.
"It is not about Kenyans of Azimio or Kenya Kwanza," Kalonzo stated.
